Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is the man in the moon, or better: the only man on the moon. After three long years, he is about to be replaced; the astronaut is long past his monotonous maintenance work. After all, the Lunar Corporation, which solved Earth's energy problems in one fell swoop, has other employees - Sam now just wants to get back to his wife (Dominique McElligott) and daughter (Kaya Scodelario). But when he suddenly encounters another lunar inhabitant, whose presence even on-board computer Gerty (in the original: Kevin Spacey) can't explain, Sam finds himself in great danger shortly before his return to Earth...
