The Lobster

The Lobster is a dystopian dark comedy film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Set in a surreal near-future society, the film explores the societal pressure to be in a romantic relationship. In this world, single people are sent to a hotel where they have 45 days to find a partner; if they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choice. The story follows David (played by Colin Farrell), a recently single man who checks into the hotel. While there, he navigates the absurd and often brutal rules of courtship. He eventually escapes to a group of rebellious loners who live in the woods, where relationships are strictly forbidden.
The Lobster is a thought-provoking commentary on the pressures of conformity and the extremes people go to in order to fit into societal norms. It satirizes the absurdity of modern dating and societal expectations, using dark humor and a surreal setting to explore the human desire for companionship and the consequences of conformity.
