A 2002 American drama film directed by Curtis Hanson and starring Eminem, in his acting debut, as Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith Jr., a young white rapper from Detroit struggling to make a name for himself in the hip-hop scene. The film is named after 8 Mile Road, a major thoroughfare in Detroit and a symbolic boundary between the predominantly black city and the predominantly white suburbs where Jimmy lives.
The movie follows Jimmy as he battles personal demons, including poverty, a dead-end job, a dysfunctional family, and a troubled romantic relationship, while trying to hone his skills as a rapper and compete in rap battles at local clubs. Along the way, he encounters various obstacles, including rival rappers and his own stage fright, but ultimately finds the courage to confront his fears and prove his talent on the mic.
